WHO IS

POLO 2 TIME$

My name is Polo 2Time$. I’m from the East side of Detroit, and I’m gone be a legend.
My overall message as an artist is to be yourself, and to accept and express your individuality. You know, finding your happiness and having fun. I’m tryna spread good vibes and positive vibes.

I am growing. I'm growing into what I always dreamed of being. I'm good with grinding for my family, and it feels like I have a purpose. It's like, if I do this, I can help everybody. So there's like, that comes with a lot of integrity, a lot of love, and a lot of honor. Those are things that I always stand on.

What song would you say made you fall in love with music? And why?

That's a good question, and a tough question. If I had to choose, it would honestly be the first song I ever recorded. It’s called “Own Lane,” I’m featuring on my cousin Don’s song. It made me want to pursue my dream. After I heard that, I knew, like “shit, let’s do this shit.” Because I freestyled that, I was young, only 16. I used to sing, but I made my own song and influenced myself.

So what's your own favorite song from your catalog? And why?

It would have to be Tom and Jerry, for real. It was so much fun making the song, and every time I perform it, everybody go up. It’s just a natural thing and energy with that song. It’s just lit. So I think Tom and Jerry is pretty much the one.
G was making some beats, and I'm just like “I need this one.” And I went in the booth. And I was like, “And the dubs make a bigger spread,” and I swear, the song just came after that. We had a conversation about how the $20 make the money spread wider, and I used that line and went from there.

If you could collab with any artists right now who would it be?

Probably Wiz a Curren$y, because those are my favorite artists. Nipsey’s no longer with us, unfortunately, so there’s nothing we can do about that. Maybe Larry June or something like that...some smooth shit.

If you could go back and be part of any era in music, where would you put yourself?

If I had to put myself in any era, I would put myself in the gangster party vibe era- Too Short, DJ Quik, Warren G, Nate Dogg-- I feel like that smooth shit, that funky baselines that era. I’d say like early 90’s, like when I was born, type of time. Captain Save’em is the first of my songs that comes to mind that was influenced by a Nate Dogg, a Warren G, or that era of music.

If you could pick two artists who do a versus battle with right now, who would you pick? And why

Curren$y and Wiz, specifically for that reason. They both had a lot to do with the process of me falling in love with music. Their music is the kind of stuff that I like to listen to. You never run out of shit to love in their catalogue. I can always go to songs from now to back then, and it’s always songs I can memorize word-for-word, and love. It’s like I can still have the same feeling I had the first day I heard it. So I feel like those two would have a dawg ass battle when it came to freestyling.
